Advanced - Competitive Ad Filter

Get Filtering

"The Competitive Ad Filter enables you to block specific ads, such as competitors' ads, from appearing on your pages". The competitive ad filter is ideal for weeding out the MFA sites who are participating in arbitrage.

These sites are paying you very little to attract people to their high paying web pages. If you want to succeed with Adsense then you're going to have to find the sites and add them to your Competitive Ad Filter list.

You might be thinking - "how am I going to know the URL of the MFA site if I cant click my own ads?". Well, you should download the Adsense Sandbox tool which lets you see which ads are appearing on your pages and visit the URL's without causing any fraudulent ad clicks on your account.

The rate at which MFA sites come and go means that you are going to have to use the Competitive Ad Filter list quite regularly. We suggest at least once a week to keep on top of things. The good thing about MFA sites is they usually setup up a long campaing in Adwords and let it run on automatic pilot. This means that their ad will always show up the sandbox tool because they never switch it off.

Remember, when adding URL's to the Ad Filter list that you should try and add the full URL from competitive sites (not MFA sites) and the domain for MFA sites. What do we mean by this? Well, a domain is something like:

www.my-mfa-site.com

and a complete URL would be:

www.dvd-products.com/sony/model100.html

You would be making a big mistake to just add the domain www.dvd-products.com to your Competitive Ad Filter because you would lose all other ads running from that advertiser.

Getting a good Ad Filter list

You can search for a pre-made Ad Filter list on the web and copy the URL's to your Adsense account, but as stated earlier these sites change all the time. By the time you receive the list its already out of date. Its better to spend a little bit of your own time weeding out the URL's which matter to you.
