HP Pavilion dv6000t (Core 2 Duo) Category: Laptops We like the HP Pavilion dv6000's attractive design and multimedia features, but don't expect this Core 2 Duo laptop to break any speed records. Panasonic Toughbook 29 (Pentium M 1.2 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD) Category: Laptops This is one of the best ruggedized laptops, perfect for war zones and other tough environments, but it's too expensive for the average user.
HP Compaq 6910p Category: Laptops Small businesses on tight budgets take note: The HP Compaq 6910p laptop offers enterprise-level features and decent performance at a price that's lower than the competition. Apple MacBook Pro (15.4-inch, 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo) Category: Laptops The MacBook Pro delivers unparalleled style, a solid set of features and software, and a few transitional performance issues that keep it from rivaling the most powerful PC laptops. Toshiba Satellite A135-S4467 Category: Laptops The Toshiba Satellite A135-S4467 is a middle-of-the-road system in every way, but it starts to look more impressive when you factor in the budget-friendly price, making it a solid choice for mainstream users. Fujitsu LifeBook S2210 (Turion 64 X2 1.6GHz, 2GB RAM, 100GB HDD, Vista Business) Category: Laptops Fujitsu's business-oriented thin-and-light LifeBook S2210 offers plenty of features and strong performance, but its standard-aspect display isn't for everyone. Worse, its battery life fell below our expectations. Toshiba Portege 3505 Category: Tablet PCs Toshiba stuffed the best of everything into the Port?g? 3505 tablet, resulting in a versatile, portable powerhouse. Lenovo ThinkPad R60 (Core Duo 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 100GB HDD, Vista Home Premium) Category: Laptops Businesses seeking a sturdy, secure, portable workhorse should consider the ThinkPad R60. Toshiba Satellite A45 series Category: Laptops This laptop's low price, excellent features, and long battery life make it a top mainstream notebook, despite a few trade-offs. Acer Aspire One (XP Home, White) Category: Laptops The Acer Aspire One is easily the best of the current under-$400 Netbooks, but its meager allotment of memory and tiny battery limit its appeal. HP Compaq CQ50-115NR Category: Laptops The entry-level Compaq Presario CQ50-115NR looks great, but you can get better performance and battery life for your money. Toshiba Satellite A205-S4617 Category: Laptops Toshiba adds faster Draft N Wi-Fi to this attractive if otherwise fairly conventional laptop. Just be sure you've got an 802.11n router to go along with it. Lenovo ThinkPad T30 2366 (Pentium 4-M 1.8 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD) Category: Laptops The thin-and-light IBM ThinkPad T series offers an innovative design, top-notch performance, and tons of features. Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q701 Category: Laptops We appreciate the 17-inch Qosmio X305-Q701's cool looks, low price, and great stereo sound, but just a little bit more cash can buy a laptop that's better for watching movies or gaming. Dell Vostro 1310 Category: Laptops Small-business owners who would otherwise buy a consumer laptop should consider the full-featured, 13.3-inch Dell Vostro 1310. Dell Inspiron 6000 Category: Laptops The competitively priced Dell Inspiron 6000 delivers a very solid combination of performance, features, and design for basic home or small-office use. Toshiba Tecra M5 Category: Laptops But for its abbreviated battery life, the Toshiba Tecra M5 is a well-balanced, powerful business laptop. Toshiba Satellite M65-S821 Category: Laptops The midsize Toshiba Satellite M65 strikes a good balance between nice multimedia features, solid performance and battery life, and a fair price. FlipStart 1.0 Category: Laptops The most laptop-like UMPC seen to date, the clamshell Vulcan FlipStart E-1001S offers welcome features including a touch pad, but it's still not the real-world practical UMPC we've been waiting for. Sony VAIO NR498E (navy) Category: Laptops It lacks some standard mainstream laptop features, including an integrated Webcam and multimedia control buttons, but the Sony Vaio VGN-NR498 holds some appeal thanks to its decent performance, good battery life, and excellent keyboard. Still, there's a cheaper version of this Vaio laptop we like better. Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6835 Category: Laptops Toshiba rolls out its new Satellite look to the basic 15-inch AMD-powered Satellite A305D, but others offer more for the same $999. Apple MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz, 17-inch) Category: Laptops Apple's Core 2 Duo 17-inch MacBook Pro is especially thin and light for a desktop replacement, making it an attractive choice for multimedia users on the go. Dell Inspiron 1525 Category: Laptops The Dell Inspiron 1525-121B is the textbook example of a midsize, mainstream laptop. Switching to slower CPU knocks a little off the performance, but also takes $80 off the price and adds battery life, compared with Dell's more mainstream configurations. Fujitsu LifeBook A6120 Category: Laptops While not exactly a looker, the Fujitsu LifeBook A6120 is a well-appointed 15-inch mainstream laptop that should offer a long life for general home use. Toshiba Satellite M45-S165 Category: Laptops The Satellite M45's price, performance, and component strengths can't overcome its fatal flaw--deplorable battery life. |
