Sony VAIO VGN-AX570G Category: Laptops With a superb 17-inch display and an integrated TV tuner, the Sony VAIO VGN-AX570G is among the most self-contained multimedia laptops and undercuts many of them by several hundred dollars. Apple MacBook Pro (15.4-inch, 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo) Category: Laptops The MacBook Pro delivers unparalleled style, a solid set of features and software, and a few transitional performance issues that keep it from rivaling the most powerful PC laptops. HP Compaq 6910p Category: Laptops Small businesses on tight budgets take note: The HP Compaq 6910p laptop offers enterprise-level features and decent performance at a price that's lower than the competition. Toshiba Portege 3505 Category: Tablet PCs Toshiba stuffed the best of everything into the Port?g? 3505 tablet, resulting in a versatile, portable powerhouse. Dell Inspiron E1705 Category: Laptops The Dell Inspiron E1705 packs a solid set of multimedia features, and when configured with Intel's Core Duo processor, it has enough power to speed through virtually any task, from editing video to playing games. Averatec AV2260-EK1 Category: Laptops The Averatec 2200 series has a lot going for it--portable design, comfortable keyboard, solid components--but its wimpy battery life is a deal-breaker. Lenovo ThinkPad R60 (Core Duo 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 100GB HDD, Vista Home Premium) Category: Laptops Businesses seeking a sturdy, secure, portable workhorse should consider the ThinkPad R60. Acer Aspire One (XP Home, White) Category: Laptops The Acer Aspire One is easily the best of the current under-$400 Netbooks, but its meager allotment of memory and tiny battery limit its appeal. HP Compaq CQ50-115NR Category: Laptops The entry-level Compaq Presario CQ50-115NR looks great, but you can get better performance and battery life for your money. Lenovo ThinkPad T30 2366 (Pentium 4-M 1.8 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD) Category: Laptops The thin-and-light IBM ThinkPad T series offers an innovative design, top-notch performance, and tons of features. Toshiba Satellite A205-S4617 Category: Laptops Toshiba adds faster Draft N Wi-Fi to this attractive if otherwise fairly conventional laptop. Just be sure you've got an 802.11n router to go along with it. Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q701 Category: Laptops We appreciate the 17-inch Qosmio X305-Q701's cool looks, low price, and great stereo sound, but just a little bit more cash can buy a laptop that's better for watching movies or gaming. Dell Vostro 1310 Category: Laptops Small-business owners who would otherwise buy a consumer laptop should consider the full-featured, 13.3-inch Dell Vostro 1310. Dell Inspiron 6000 Category: Laptops The competitively priced Dell Inspiron 6000 delivers a very solid combination of performance, features, and design for basic home or small-office use. Toshiba Tecra M5 Category: Laptops But for its abbreviated battery life, the Toshiba Tecra M5 is a well-balanced, powerful business laptop. Toshiba Satellite M65-S821 Category: Laptops The midsize Toshiba Satellite M65 strikes a good balance between nice multimedia features, solid performance and battery life, and a fair price. Sony VAIO NR498E (brown) Category: Laptops It lacks some standard mainstream laptop features, including an integrated Webcam and multimedia control buttons, but the Sony Vaio VGN-NR498 holds some appeal thanks to its decent performance, good battery life, and excellent keyboard. Still, there's a cheaper version of this Vaio laptop we like better. Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6835 Category: Laptops Toshiba rolls out its new Satellite look to the basic 15-inch AMD-powered Satellite A305D, but others offer more for the same $999. Apple MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz, 17-inch) Category: Laptops Apple's Core 2 Duo 17-inch MacBook Pro is especially thin and light for a desktop replacement, making it an attractive choice for multimedia users on the go. Sony VAIO NR160E/W Category: Laptops Kudos to Sony for releasing the sub-$1,000 VAIO NR160. It's a perfectly functional, budget 15-inch laptop--we just wish it didn't stray so far from the excellent industrial design of the company's more expensive systems. Dell Inspiron 1525 Category: Laptops The Dell Inspiron 1525-121B is the textbook example of a midsize, mainstream laptop. Switching to slower CPU knocks a little off the performance, but also takes $80 off the price and adds battery life, compared with Dell's more mainstream configurations. WinBook W360 Category: Laptops Small businesses and consumers will appreciate the WinBook W360's low price, but speed fiends should get the faster HP Compaq Business Notebook nc6000.
Toshiba Satellite M55-S325 Category: Laptops The colorful Satellite M55 will satisfy your craving for a well-rounded, affordable thin-and-light. Toshiba Satellite R25-S3503 Category: Tablet PCs The bulky Satellite R25 offers a beautiful display and plenty of features at a low price, but if you don't need the tablet functionality, there are better wide-screen notebooks on the market. HP Compaq Presario V5000Z Category: Laptops The attractive Compaq Presario V5000Z delivers good performance and a complete set of basic features for a remarkably low starting price. |
