Photographic gallery showing the best of Helen Levitt. Various photos of here best work from New York Streets 1938s to 1990s. Fascinating images from an era where raw colour and life are shown at their purest. The collection of images covers the collection being shown at the Henri Cartier Bresson Foundation in Paris. The collection spans seven decades of Helens life, most of which were made through her working-class neighbourhoods in New York.
The photo gallery contains some excellent shots from the 1930s in black and white. Urban children playing in the street. You can almost feel the raw lifestyle and self embodied nature of the citizens.
Other photos from her popular years include the vintage dye-transfer colour prints from the late 60s through to the 80s. Helen Levitt was an American photographer 1913 – 2009. She was referred to as the most celebrated and least known photographer of her time.
A wonderful dedicated site to a sadly missed photographer and artist. Well worth a look.
