Although you can install texture packs manually by using your favourite zip software (WinRAR or WinZip), MCPatcher takes the hassle out of trying to find your minecraft.jar file, unzipping the new texture and copying the files across. MCPatcher also keeps a copy of your original minecraft.jar file so you have a nice backup if anything goes wrong or the texture pack throws an error!
The MCPatcher software needs no installer, it is just an exe file. Its portable and can be run on Windows or MAC operating systems. Just select the appropriate file from the MCPatcher download list.
MCPatcher is available for:
Windows
MAC
Ubuntu
Debian
Other linux installs
Using MCPatcher is really simple, just:
1. Run Minecraft and switch to the default textures
2. Close Minecraft
3. Run the MCPatcher application
4. It should automatically find the minecraft.jar file but if not, just select it
5. Now browse to the texture pack you want to install (.zip file)
6. Click patch
7. Now run Minecraft again and the new textures will be in use
If you find that MCPatcher shows an error, try placing the exe in the Minecraft/bin folder and run it from there.
