Ahhh…ask any true Amiga fan which game they remember and you’ll certainly hear It Came from the Desert mentioned. A true adventure game, originally released in the 1989’s, It Came from the Desert combined many elements of the holy grail of adventure games - great music, great graphics and a classic story. If you liked The Secret of Monkey Island then you surely loved It Came from the Desert too.
Developed by Cinemaware, the game resembled a 1950’s B move where mutant ants had invaded earth. It was up to you the outsider (Greg) to discover the source of the strange occurrences and get to the bottom of the ant invasion.
Unlike other more linear adventure games at the time, It Came from the Desert had a refreshing freedom about it. The player was free to roam the map, talk to characters and find clues. Along the way you’d explore various sightings, fend off the ants, fly planes and even control the army. The game had so many unique elements which combined with great graphics and an engaging story made it one of the all-time greats.
