SWOS or Sensible World of Soccer was a sequel to the original Sensible Soccer game. It brought a whole new meaning to the miniature football game by introducing the football manager aspect. Gamers could buy and sell players to build the ultimate team and compete in domestic and international competitions. Careful use of subs and a good eye for the transfer market all helped to stay in the big competitions.
The game engine was also improved allowing players to dribble the ball better and curl shots past goalkeepers. This was a great improvement over the original game in which dribbling was a masterful art only achieved by the best gamers.
With around 27,000 players included in the game spread across 1500 teams, SWOS contained enough depth to keep you playing for many years. Even now, it's great to remember some of the best players from the 90's era including Eric Cantona, George Weah, Romario, Roberto Baggio and of course Ronaldo.
SWOS is even available on XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade).
