Great; Terribly Important
I had long put off ordering and reading this book. The subtitle, which implies essentially that this past century of war was all about a struggle for oil dominance, had seemed to me a very limited argument. But Engdahl's book was so heavily referenced in E. H. Brown's very important "Web of Debt" that I finally decided to order and to read this book. And I am very glad that I did.
Essentially, Engdahl does make the case that Anglo-American Imperial policy has been driven largely by acquisition of resources. And the case is well made. But what is most interesting is the linkage of international banking, centered in London and New York with this drive for overwhelming superiority, whatever the cost. In this context, there is no doubt the Mr. Engdahl's thesis is well proven. And, in truth, this drive for "full spectrum dominance" by perfidious Albion and her junior American cousin continues to dominate international politics.
There are stunning, and verifiable, truths throughout this very important book. It is very well written. Any reader interested at all in international politics and the history of the last century will find it very hard to put down. We recommend it strongly. In fact, we have since ordered, and began reading, Engdahl's sequel to this book, "Seeds of Destruction". If you had told me months ago that I would have my nose in a book about genetic manipulation, I'd have thought you daft. But, I am reading the sequel and enjoying it very much. And the only reason I am doing so is do the excellence and importance of this book, "A Century of War". Pick up a copy for yourself, such that you can join in the needed international movement to know justice and to love mercy, while yet there is time. God bless.

Do NOT read this book
There are many great reviews of this book so I wanted to make this a little more personal: First, I strongly believe that work as honest, and exceptional as this should be duly rewarded. But that is where my recommendation must end. Allow me to elaborate: my sincerest wish is that every reader of this book would be empowered with the knowledge this author offers. Unfortunately, I am not sure that would be the result as I personally have only experienced consternation and alienation when I touch on some of the insights in this book in conversation with others. The problem seems to be the chasm between the historical narrative this book lays out and that of your average compatriot is so wide that I and many others lack the skills to bridge them. I would love for this book to be the beginning of some great call to action and a gift of revelation not just for the reader but for those near and dear to them. But alas you can't force people to read, listen, understand, learn or love. You can only show them the door and they get to choose whether to walk through. So if you think you might read it buy at least two copies. One for yourself in case you don't follow my advise, and another copy for a friend, family member or coworker... in case you don't follow my advice.
