Really? Spoiler alert.
Not only does the author condone teenage marriage in this book but also teenage pregnancy?
The pregnancy was a surprise. I didn't see that one coming. But was it necessary? And the whole Jacob POV? Was that necessary also?
This book is not really an ending. We still have a disappointed Volturi element out there, lurking. What is going to happen? Jacob and Renesme fight them off?
I do have to say that Bella was always supposed to be a vampire. You could tell that from the first book when she could "smell" the blood. So it is no surprise that she took to it like a fish to water.
I do have a word for the publishers though. Who does the proofreading? A buck is a male deer, NOT an elk. Not only that but there were several spelling and grammatical errors. When I spend money on a book, I want an error free product.

Not how I would of ended things, but still good After reading the first 3 books in this saga, I had high hopes for the fourth installment. Sadly, it didn't wrap it up as I would have wished. Bella does became a Vampire (finally) but not without several missteps in my opinion.
Bella and Edward finally tie the knot and do the deed, it's too bad that Meyer writes the love scenes as fade to black, but I guess she was keeping in mind the younger set that has been reading these novels. Still, Bella is human, not turned yet. So since Edward and Bella consummate the marriage she gets pregnant. When Edward realizes she is with child he is none too pleased, with-in a matter of weeks the baby inside her grows considerably, threatening her very life. He wants her to get an abortion to save herself, but she refuses and decides to keep the baby...meanwhile she enlist the help of Rosalie to make sure no one forces her to get rid of the child. It's at this point that the book takes a dreadful turn that sadly left me a little bit sick and depressed about where Meyers took the characters. First she has Edward fighting Bella at every turn to rid herself of the child ("it" as he calls it), then she has Bella trying to keep a baby that is clearly killing her and that she will give birth to in a matter of months -- not in 9 months. Not to mention Rosalie??? Who in each book before has been nothing much more than a total snob and brat, but now she is Bella's only protector and is dead set on making sure Bella has the child even though it is going to kill her. Jacob (the love struck Werewolf) shows up of course and is disgusted over Bella's appearance and decision to keep the child as well. Then there are a few chapters all thru Jacobs's eyes, which is very frustrating. Several chapters in, Bella begins to give birth - which how Meyers writes it reminded me of a horror scene from "Alien" when the bloody baby alien shoots from the man's chest (not pleasant). The intensity of the labor does actually kill Bella which forces Edward into making her a vampire in order to save her. She spends 3 days in a burning hell before she wakes up to a new world as a Vampire.
Okay- now the book gets good...Her skills are unparallel; she has an enormous amount of control regardless of being a new born Vamp. Her child begins to grow in leaps and bounds as everyone falls in love with it, except for me, because the child reminds me way to much of Rosemary's baby - she can talk to you thru your mind, by showing you things - freaky! During all of this the head Vampires in Italy grow restless and decide that they would like to add some new blood to their court. They are of course very interested in Bella, Edward, and Alice who all have special skills that they wish to obtain by means of force if necessary, they use the birth of their child as an excuse to come check things out. For fear for their child and their life's they join forces with several other vampires and the Were's. This all leads to a show down where vampires and werewolves may battle it out in a last stand sort of way.
First half pretty good, middle not that great, end awesome!

An unforgettable conclusion I bought three of the books. This one I couldn't wait to go to the store or for it to be delivered from an online store. So, I downloaded it as an E-book. It cost more but was totally worth it. Now I am going to order the last one so I can have the complete series. Stephanie enveloped us in a sea of emotion from beginning to end. I have watched everything from Nosferatu to the recent Moonlight series, over the years. I was very disappointed that the network (CBS) chose not to renew it and did so without warning. Apparently so were 8 million other viewers. But I digress...
I have read all of Ann Rice's vampire books and other authors, as well. I loved it that he convinced her to marry him. The whole story was wonderful. I loved the way she "wrapped" things up. Ms. Meyer told a vampire story that was truly fresh, fun and dealt with a lot of teenage emotions. She treated her characters lovingly and patiently. She dealt with the expectation of violence from the two largest vampire clans in a manner that was believable.
The bad reviews make no sense to me. But then I am older than a teenager. So perhaps I see it from a wiser and more relaxed (LOL) angle. Keep up the great work Stephanie. I can't wait for New Moon, the movie to be released in November. I have to buy all the videos, too. This is a must have collection for any vampire enthusiast.
