Now an HBO original series, True Blood-the New York Times bestselling Sookie Stackhouse series continues.
Except for Sookie Stackhouse, folks in Bon Temps, Louisiana, know little about vamps-and nothing about weres.
Until now. The weres and shifters have finally decided to reveal their existence to the ordinary world. At first all goes well. Then the mutilated body of a were-panther is found near the bar where Sookie works-and she feels compelled to discover who, human or otherwise, did it.
But there's a far greater danger threatening Bon Temps. A race of unhuman beings-older, more powerful, and more secretive than vampires or werewolves-is preparing for war. And Sookie finds herself an all-too human pawn in their battle.

Fantastic! Lots of action! I dont' get what all the negative reviews are about. I really enjoyed this book, as I have all the Sookie Stackhouse books. I only wish this one had been longer; I got to the end way too fast. I love that Sookie and Eric are finally getting somewhere; its about time. So I hope that continues. Otherwise I just couldn't agree with the other reviews about the excess of violence, etc. I found a couple of editorial issues in the text, but what book doesn't have a few of those. I found them easy to ignore and "fix" in my mind as I read. I think this is one of the best in series yet. Can't wait for the next one! Keep 'em coming Ms. Harris!

Dead and Gone I thought this book was really good .I could not put it done as well as the other True Blood books . They will keep you guessing and always woundering if Sookie will be with Bill or Eric. I can not wait for book 10 to get here in May.

Page turner, light read, lots of fun! I love this series and thought this book was one of the more interesting of the recent volumes. I really enjoy Eric/Pam/Bill and like the plot lines that keep them more engaged with the series. This book did not disappoint.
On the topic of series canon, I really didn't experience any "what?!?" moments with this book. I come from the Star Trek universe where canon is law and often ends up being a stranglehold on new ideas. I think Harris has a plenty good enough grasp on her own universe.

Keeps getting better and better This book is really great. I have to say that on a personal note, my favorite book is still book four, but the writing of Charlaine just keeps getting better, and the story lines just keep getting more interesting. I am glad this book was about weres, shapeshifter, and fairies, but it still was able to balance the vampire theme appropriately. It basically shows that in Charlaine's universe, all the supernatural are peeps. When I read the synopsis of all the books before I decided on whether to take on the series or not (I like the tv show and wanted to know what may happen next), I was taken back by the introduction of fairies and thought it was too much. However, when I read the entire series, I saw how it was was well done and balanced, and actually believable for that universe. There are a few inconsistencies here and there throughout the series, but Charlaine acknowledges them and is trying to prevent them in the future. I am so glad she created this series. It is so thrilling.
