Holes Forever!
Imagine digging one hole 5ft in every direction for years for committing a crime. That's what Stanley Yelnats had done, (yes, Yelnats is Stanley spelled backward.)Stanley went there because everyone accused him of stealing a famous baseball player's shoes, from a thrift store. But, he didn't. This book is called Holes, by Louis Sachar. There are 233 pages total in this book.
Stanley is going to court for stealing a famous baseball player's shoes, or did he them? He is given a choice of going to prison or Camp Green Lake. His parents choose Camp Green Lake on such short notice. Stanley meets everybody at Camp Green Lake. At first he thinks a kid named Zero (Zeroni), is sort of weird. Zeroni and Stanley escaped to a mountain, went to the top and found water went back to camp and tried to find the treasure chest and they did! I won't tell you what was in it because I don't want to ruin the surprise.
My favorite part of the book is when Zero asks Stanley "Want breakfast?" and handed him a box with cereal inside, because it was at night. Then the warden and everybody else came out and they pulled guns but not to shoot them but the yellow spotted lizards crawling all over them. If one bit you, you would die almost right away. They could not move a muscle until morning.
The lesson I learned from this book is that you should never steal, or hurt someone there will always be a consequence from the action you did. I read another book by Louis Sachar called Small Steps. Zero and Stanley are not in it, just Armpit and X-Ray. I would recommend this book because if you like adventure books this is for you. It also has somewhat comedy. I think you should read this book the very first chance you get, I rated it 5 stars. So please read it.

Holes is a great book. I couldn't put the book down. How would you feel if you had to leave your family and friends to dig a bunch of holes. This is a book by Louis Sachar. It has 233 pages and you will get hooked. This book is about Stanley Yelnats. I promise you this is a great book.
When Stanley Yelnats went to camp he thought it was going to be fun but instead he had to dig holes. When he was digging one of his holes he found a gold tube. He kept track of where the hole was. When he and his friend Zero ran away they survived from onions and dirty water. They started to come back to get water so they stayed in a hole that night and the warden found them. When the warden found them Stanley's lawyer came to get Stanley and Zero.
My favorite part of the book is when they are throwing the sunflower seeds around and they fall in Stanley's hole and he has to go to the warden office and she slashes Mr. Sir's face.
The most important thing I learned is not to steal or else you will go through the same thing or close to the same thing as Stanley.
Some other books by Louis Sachar are `There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom', `Dogs Don't Tell Jokes' and `The Mavin Redpost Series'.
I recommend this book because it teaches you a lesson, it's easy to visualize and it's good. Next time you go to the library you should check out this book.

Dig It!
If you had to choose between going to jail or camp what would you do? Well that's what Stanley Yentas had to decide in the 233 page book Holes by Louis Sachar. Would you want to wake up at 4:30 am just to dig a 5 foot deep and 5 foot wide hole when it is 110 degrees in the shade!
This book, Holes, is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats going to court and having to decide between jail and camp. Stanley got sent to camp green lake because he was caught with shoes that were supposedly stolen. Stanley decided camp thinking it would be nice, but on the way to camp his wrists were handcuffed to the seat. Stanley met many friends including one special one named Zero. About 1 month into camp they ran off to climb a mountain with the thumb on top. On their way there they found some onions to eat on their journey. After climbing for hours they made it to the top. They got a lot of shade from the thumb and found water. They both decided to go back to camp and dig one last hole. When they got back there was a surprise waiting for them that I'm not going to tell.
My favorite part of the book is when Zero and Stanley find water up on the mountain after digging for a while at night. I like this part because it was a huge struggle for both boys. One struggle was climbing this huge mountain that was mostly all up hill. Stanley and Zero also had no water to drink. After a while they found some jars with peaches in them. Both boys ate the peaches right up. About half way up the mountain Zero fainted because of the peaches and how they were really old. Climbing the rest of the mountain Zero was on Stanley's shoulder. Finally the struggle to find water or die.
The most important thing I learned was if someone you met didn't talk and was really shy you can still be friends with them.
Other books by this author are Small Steps, Dogs don't Tell Jokes and There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom.
I highly recommend this book. If you like to read and have spare time you are not going to want to put it down!

A good use of about 3 hours
This was a nice book. It's been a very long time since I have read a fiction book-- and the ones that I did read back in undergraduate were too heavily laden with symbolism (about who knows what) or forced to neatly fit into whatever social ideas were in fashion at the time.
Not so for the Louis Sachar book (I only realized much later that this is the same author that I read as a child who wrote "Sideways Stories From Wayside School.") This was an easy, light read and there was no need to overthink what the plot *may* have meant, since it meant what it said.
Sachar did thorough (yet brief) character development and had a good number of funny lines in the book.
This was well worth the second hand purchase price. Highly recommended.
