The Title doesn't Do It Justice -> Best Book EVER!! I cannot believe I have not stumbled across this book until now. Forget "French Women Don't Get Fat", Bethenney Frankel's 'Naturally Thin', and any other diet and weight loss book you've ever read that you thought was different: this one is The One!! Unique and absolutely eye-openening. I have lived by these principles all my life without knowing why and have never been overweight. I was never able to follow a diet or count calories or points for long (didn't have the patience)and now, I have it spelled out and explained and it makes so much sense - Amazing! If you've ever struggled with your weight or an eating disorder, want to help someone else, or just wonder about how your body is supposed to work, do yourself a favor and get this book.

Naturally Thin by Eating More has been my Liberator I have been using the NT principles for 5 weeks and am thrilled with the fact that I haven't binged since week 1 and I have no desire to do so.
Last week I lost my desire for sweets which is amazing, not that I ever had a major sweet tooth, but the idea of eating something sweet nauseates me a little, even the granola, Luna and balance bars that I loved so much--oh well.
It's funny I used to obsess over food and my next meal, now I'm obsessing over the fact that I am not obsessed over food. I always thought I was bingeing due to boredom when I was watching TV at night, last week, in the evenings when I got home from work and the gym, I had no desire to feed myself other than the meals I ate because I was "feeding my hunger."
So far after 5 weeks I am seeing great results in stopping my need to binge which is something I only dreamed of. There is no willpower involved at all, which is liberating, and because I am not dieting, I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders--I feel very free! Now I am starting to see some weightloss too!

Life-changing! I found this book, the 1989 copy of it, on at bookshelf at my mother-in-law's house. The title was intriguing, but I didn't expect much from it. Then I started reading it and couldn't put it down. I had been searching for the answer to my eating issues and weight control problems. I'm not obese or even considered "overweight," just a little pudgy around the middle (and under the chin!). I have extra weight from bearing two children that I've struggled to lose (just 5-10 lbs) on a 5'4" frame that has always depressed me. Even more daunting were my food issues (that most people close to me didn't realize I had). I thought about food constantly, I'd be eating breakfast and think about what I was going to have for lunch, then do the same at lunch about dinner, and on and on. I stuffed myself at mealtimes then felt guilty and miserable. But I'd still think about what I was going to eat next. I'd even get mad when I ate too much because I'd couldn't fit in a snack later. And sometimes I'd eat it anyway, and feel worse.
I tried different diets like Weight Watchers. I lost weight, but I was so hungry and counting points was maddening. Then I gained the weight back. Even though I didn't need to lose as much as many people, this principle will work at any weight. Anyway, Jean's book Naturally Thin (NT) explained for the first time that I've ever found, exactly why diets fail, why we eat the way we do, and how to change it. It clicked with me instantly. I learned that it's okay to eat real foods, not sucky diet foods and fat-free dressing. And now I'm intouch with my hunger level and have gotten over my fears. I eat whatever I want, when I want it, and stop when I'm full. Now I'd heard that advice before but without NT I didn't trust it. I followed her advice explicitly and never allowed myself to get hungry. Then slowly, my appetite naturally changed. I stopped craving and binging and now find it much easier to stop eating. It takes awareness, but I'll never have to diet again.
I've lost 4 lbs---permanently over the course of 2 months (and continuing to lose). Slow yes, but no food denial, no guilt, no irritability. I feel truly free. My husband's doing it too and we are amazed at how much better we feel, no painfully full stomachs and no cravings either.
If you are fed up with diets, please give this a try. I also recommend, "The Overfed Head". Great advice with a similar theme.

Help is here! I first read this book 15 years ago but was terrified to follow all of the Naturally Thin principles for fear of gaining weight! The diet mentality is so powerful AND so detrimental to our physical and mental health. So I spent the next 15 years dieting, starving, binging, afraid of food and gaining weight. I was miserable and tired of holding myself back in life because of my food and weight issues. I finally said enough and dug this book out from the back of my closet.
What a difference this program has made. Almost immediately, I lost my craving for sugar and processed foods - I thought I had a serious sugar addiction before NT but now I realize that I was just hungry for real food and enough of it. I eat sugary foods every once in a while now when I crave them but can rarely eat more than a few bites before I've had enough. What a relief! I also stopped binging almost immediately as well.
It is true that Jean wants you to eat mostly real foods which sounds so hard and restrictive to hardcore dieters. In reality, it is not and you don't have to be perfect with your food choices. Your body will eventually get it without your head getting in the way. There's a lot of really healthy tasty good food to eat. Very quickly, I found I actually preferred the good stuff over the crap. This is such a turnaround for me - a former junk food junkie.
There is a low fat component to this program as mentioned in some of the negative postings here. It too sounded diety to me and I refused to incorporate a low fat mentality when making food choices in the beginning. Over time, however, I too found that my body was craving lower fat food. A lot of times, higher fat food choices just don't appeal anymore. But when they do, I eat them and don't worry about it. My body can be trusted.
As stated elsewhere, the NT program is not a quick fix and you have to be committed to being well-fed and having food available whenever you are hungry, wherever you are. It gets easier and is a small price for the rewards - a well-fed, satisfied body, no more binging or overeating, healthy food choices and most of all peace of mind. AND of course, gradual weight loss.
I gained five pounds during a 3 month gaining stage and have been plateauing now for about 2 months. Every body is different. You may gain more or less weight depending on the length and severity of your dieting history. I now eat at least twice as much during my dieting days and I am fearless about what or how much I put in my mouth. Of course, I'm waiting for the weight loss stage to occur but am content with where I am now, knowing that I will never ever diet again or deprive myself of good food (or any food). I've also realized that this is the highest weight I will ever be as long as stay away from diets. Now that I'm eating according to NT principles, my body is slowly getting the message that food is always available so it doesn't need to hold on to the extra fat stores. A naturally thin weight for me is only a matter of time.
