My Brother, My Keeper is a Horatio Alger story about an ordinary person who started life with very little, and, ultimately, became an inspirational figure to hundreds of people within his lifetime. It's a story about the author's brother, Blase, who died at the age of sixty after a courageous six-and-a-half year battle with cancer. After losing his father at the age of twelve to a massive heart attack, Blase, the oldest of five siblings, was forced to grow up fast. He took on the responsibility of helping others at an early age and continued to give generously of himself into adulthood. His first full-time job was as a laborer for a construction company, and, through hard work and a positive attitude, he eventually became the owner of that company, one of the largest privately held construction firms in the country. Blase was an amazing person who affected an enormous number of people in a very special way. He had an amazingly strong, positive attitude and outlook on life. His refusal to think negatively is what made him so special to everyone he encountered throughout his life, be it family member, friend, new employee, or complete stranger. As you read his life story, you will likely be able to identify a "Blase" in your own life-someone who has inspired you in a special way through his or her actions or deeds. Blase's story is meant to motivate others to reach their dreams through hard work, determination, faith, and a positive attitude. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was the way he was able to use these characteristics to fight his most difficult battle in life-his struggle against cancer. Although the disease eventually took his life, it never defeated his spirit.

Inspirational
This book is a must read for anyone who wants to find out: how to live a good life, how to deal with adversity, how to enjoy every moment you have, how to treat your family, friends, and total strangers. Blase Cooke's life is an example of one man's choice of "why not me?" instead of "why me?" That is the choice he made every day of his life. It made him an outstanding success in his professional and personal life, and it made him an amazing example of how to face death with dignity. Well written, yet easy to read, this book will take you a day to read (you won't put it down), but will stay with you for a lifetime.

wow, what a great book....
My Brother, My Keeper, is a book everyone should read and share.... What a blessed life, Mr Cooke had, and he is still, inspiring so many people. I was very touched in the way he lived his everyday life. If we all could be so loving, caring, smart, and giving., what a wonderful world this would be. My hope is that I can share this book with many people so we all can give our heart to God, and live life to the fullest. Thanks for sharing this story.

My Brother My Keeper
I thoroughly enjoyed this book for many reasons. It has inspirational foundations with common, easy to relate to stories and messages about a guy, Blase Cooke and those that admired and loved him for the simple, but extraordinary qualities he had. The book and true life story reinforces the principle that those that give and expect little or nothing back are in the end the most gifted, rewarded and respected people in this overly self centric world.
I loved the golf stories being an avid golfer myself.A great read and tribute to a regular guy that to his close friends and family was anything but "regular".

Motivating
This remarkable story of Blase Cooke provides assurance that "good guys" do win!! His brother Phil does a brilliant job of capturing so many examples of Blase's tenacity, humor, and overall good will through the recollections of his own experiences with Blase as well as stories told by friends and coworkers. The inclusion of numerous family photos further documents that although his achievements were so monumental, he was foremost a genuine family man and friend to many. I believe MY BROTHER, MY KEEPER will reward every reader with the encouragement and understanding of how their next challenge in life should be viewed: not as another obstacle but rather as another opportunity.
