Today's architecture and urban planning tends to operate through reversible solutions, taking their references from models that are incomplete, imperfect and elastic. Precisely for this reason they are capable of withstanding the continuous processes of innovation. In this book Branzi examines how transformations in the concept of modernity have changed project strategy following new territorial and social developments. He puts this into relation to his own projects and research from the mid-1960's with the radical experience of the Archizoom group until the present.

Powerful Historical Questions Answered With Poetic Form
Branzi designs and writes with a voice that is very historically aware. He sees emerging cultural conditions and responds to them poetically, not only with theory, but with proposals. The rational goals of modernism have been confused by the diffuse logic of global capitalism. Branzi takes a hard look at what this means for the global vs. local realities. In light of the current global economic meltdown, these questions seem more relevant than ever. Branzi's proposals may not answer these difficult questions, but they point toward form and the importance of visualizing and questioning a new order. `Weak and diffuse' is the global connection vs. a `strong' local connection. What does it mean for our cities and nations? Branzi asks the tough historical questions and answers with poetic form.
