At 10.2 ounces, Kindle is lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. Barely a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle fits perfectly in your hands. Kindle is as easy to hold and use as a book. We designed it with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle. Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

Great reader but waiting for experimental functions to work on full scale Hello,
first of all - I love my Kindle 2! Being from Slovakia, this is the first one I have. I wanted Kindle for reading as I read lots of materials for my studies. So I heavily use the notes and highlight tool. I tried some newspaper samples and wish to buy some newspapers occasionally as well.
I improve my English language skill with the incorporated Oxford dictionary. And the Wikipedia access? I use it heavily. So, these are the pluses.
For the minuses - I subscribed to an electronic version of my favorite magazine but the format is in .pdf. Having .pdf files as experimental function, I face problems with skipping A4 format ads and mixed paragraphs.. Another experimental function is the web browsing. I would like to have the option to turn on Kindle in the morning and check the weather forecast at least! What is more, I am willing to pay for such option.
To conclude: I am glad I could buy the Kindle 2 - international version. I read my materials transferred via USB and purchase the books via Amazon. Thanks to the incorporated dictionary, the reading of English materials is very convenient and improves my English.
And I am waiting for the experimental functions to become inseparate part of the Amazon 2 device.
Best regards,
Linda

Great product I ordered the Kindle as soon as it became available in Australia and only half-believed the promise that it would be delivered in three days. But three days later it was delivered to my door. Even more astonishing was the speed of downloading books. My first was the 650-page "Wolf Hall". It took all of a minute to download. The next two took 40 seconds and 20 seconds.
As a severe test, I read "Wolf Hall" first. I soon found I was reading much more quickly than I read print (shorter eye spans, I suppose). Then I found it was much more comfortable to hold than the weighty print version, which I also owned. I got through all 650 pages very happily and very comfortably. Since then I've chortled my way through Nick Hornby's "Juliet, Naked" and have become a Kindle convert.
My one reservation is the Kindle method of measuring progress through the book as a percentage. I would like page numbers as well.

UK Kindle Review I've been wanting to get a Kindle for ages now and finally the international version is available. The product itself is total class and feels great in the hand I purchased the leather cover with it as well and both are perfect partners. When you first start up the Kindle you see Amazon have set up all the settings for you so its really easy to start reading. I purchased a couple of books before it had arrived and was very impressed to see them waiting for me on the home screen to start reading, great! The reading experience itself is very comfortable, the Kindle is light and sleek with the screen being just a little darker that a normal book page but still very readable in daylight or under a lamp. The interface is responsive with page turns and 3G access pretty nippy!! I live in central Bristol and we have very good 3G coverage all around.
There are a few issues that I want to point out, which I feel aren't deal breakers but Amazon need to resolve sooner rather than later. Firstly the choice of books in the UK is more limited than I expected will much of the current best sellers not available yet, plus while the 3G is fast for navigating the Kindle Store and Wikipedia UK users aren't allowed to do more general browsing due to a territory restriction! I would happily pay a small fee to have this ability. The UK also doesn't have the ability to subscribe to any RSS or blogs as yet which is disappointing. On a more general note the limited file format support has also been disappointing with almost every document having to go through some sort of conversion for the Kindle to display it, which considering the restricted book selection is a bit of a pain. In conclusion as it stands at the moment the Kindle is great but could be phenomenal if Amazon can sort out the international and file format restrictions.

Love after two weeks I bought my Kindle as a birthday gift to myself. After only two weeks I am totally in love with it. I had been following the development of the Kindle since it was first announced. I felt that neither the Kindle 1 nor the Kindle DX would be useful to me. The primary reason I wanted an ebook reader was so that I could read the daily newspaper on it. I had been traveling to a small city in the Philippines quite a bit and it was impossible to get any newspaper other than the P.I. paper. I am in the habit of reading the newspaper while I dine, and I was very frustrated that when the supply of papers I brought with me was exhausted I would typically have three or four days before I could get any others. After the first of the year I began traveling to China extensively and again had trouble getting any decent newspaper. I bought the Kindle 2 the same day I learned that I could now download books and newspapers from international locations.
Of course I immediately downloaded and read a newspaper when I received my Kindle 2. It's not perfect but it's pretty darned good! I find it easy to use, the newspaper is very readable, and the price is right. I can subscribe to two or three newspapers on the Kindle and canceling one of the three print newspapers I subscribe to will pay for that. I don't have to carry the bulky newspaper around with me. Before Kindle I always traveled with at least one physical book in my carryon. Not having to do that now is going to save weight and space in my bag. The Kindle is going to China with me in a week and if it works there, as advertised, it will be worth its' weight in gold. I'm very happy with Kindle 2. I took it to dinner with me on my birthday and it was one of the best birthdays I've had.
