The Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there s the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There s also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

NOT Windows 7 Compatible - Terrible Tech Support
First, understand that I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 so some of my experience MAY be related. However, I ordered and received this router and went through the install process as instructed in the accompanying instructions when I encountered an error which had me on the telephone with Cicso's tech support (in India) for a couple hours. Finally, it was working. Be aware, however, that if you want Cisco to do the install you have to pay extra. They will, however, walk you through it on the phone for free even though that takes them (and you) about four times as long. Then I powered the PC down for the night. The next morning, the PC connected to the router could not access the internet through the router but my laptop, using the wireless feature, could. Go figure. Another call to tech support with a reference to the preveious evening's festivities had them asking me to move my gear all over the place, try this and try that, all to debug their software/hardware issues.
In the end, the tech support person threw up his hands and surrendered. He claimed that it was due to issues with Windows 7. Maybe. I don't know and, very frankly, I don't care. The product could not be installed and did not work consistently when it was installed. The tech nsupport took forever and when they finally reached the bottom of the explanations barrel they blamed it on Microsoft's operating system. That may be correct. I am not making a judgement about that. I am simply warning other customers to be aware that I had a failed installation and returned the item as defective which, to me, it was. But, the support organization is weak and out of date (Windows 7 implementation was announced long ago and beta versions for testing have been available for a long time...Cisco was caught, apparently, completely by surprise...not an encouraging event for a major software/hardware vendor). And, they do not hesitate to have you, the customer, go to extraordinary efforts to debug their products. I am have home computer, not a business IT department with network engineers.
I will be very reluctant to buy any products or services from this vencor again. You, too, have been warned!

Good, after calling Linksys!
Just before installing it, my advise is to call linksys and install it step by step with them. The problem is that it keeps on changing the IP address; how? I have no idea!!! Generally after the IP is stable, the router is good.

Works fine if you don't have down syndrome
Installed this thing in about 15 minutes replacing a 2 year old wrt54G. I didn't use the installation CD so I cannot comment on that setup. I am amazed at some of the posts here regarding unhappy people about this router. I mean honestly the words people use in their post just don't match up. I think someone said "interface" in their review. I am convinced that the world is full of ding dongs who cant use a pencil sharpener let alone set up a wireless router. Some einstien commented here on the fact that he was mad you had to hard wire the router to get into the config screen. EVER heard of an IP address? ALL routers need to be hard wired to the computer AND net to be configured correctly. Also all of you people who are using the so-called installation CD deserve what you have coming. It is FAR easier to setup a router security via the web browser and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that putting a CD program in your disk drive will expose a computer to spyware. DUH! The router works just fine has decent speed and good range. If you don't know about computers or networks realize that there will never be one click network setup. Get over it..and learn somthing. This router setup is straightforward and simple. I enjoy owning. it.

Call tech support for assistance
Call LinkSYS 800-546-5797 to help you with install problems. I read a review about the install CD not being helpful but purchesed it anyway. I have to say that I ran into the same install problem. The CD could not complete the setup. I contacted the merchant and was told to call the manufacturer for tech support. It took a while with tech support but I got it working. I suggest that before getting frustrated and returning the router call LinkSYS for support. It was not something that I could have done on my own because there are lots of settings that were determined by tech support. Hope this helps anyone who is having problems with installing this router.
