rockband, better.
If you're into band music games, rockband 2 is it right now. Overall fun experience and varied soundtrack. hardware problems of rockband 1 mostly fixed. Otherwise not that innovative.

Get your non gamer friends to play games
This game got my non-gaming boyfriend playing -- not an easy feat.
The drums have been vastly improved since the drums of the first Rockband. It's wireless, feels sturdy, and the foot pedal even has some metal reinforcements to make it more solid. The best part is that it's A LOT quieter. I can play on a hardwood floor without annoying my downstair neighbors.
The auto-calibration of the wireless guitar is also a nice touch.
