642-901 Exam Information
642-901 is a 90 minute multiple choice exam consisting of between 50-60 questions. The exam is available in the following languages English and Japanese.
Pearson VUE is the dedicated testing provider for this exam. You can register on their site, schedule your exam and pay the required fees. Your accredited ID is also maintained through the Pearson VUE site and exam results are automatically associated with your ID once the exam has been taken. Pearson VUE policies state that candidates must not take any electronic equipment into the examination room, this includes mobile phones, PDA’s and other communication devices.
The 642-901 Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks is targeted towards network technicians wanting to demonstrate their skills in advanced IP addressing and routing in implementing scalability for Cisco ISR routers connection to LANs and WANs.
The exam tests candidate’s knowledge and skills in areas such as:

Realize multiarea OSPF operations, describe the functions and operations of multiarea OSPF, configure multiarea OSPF routing, Stub, NSSA, distribute-lists and passive interfaces, authentication, verify or troubleshoot multiarea OSPF routing configurations. Integrated IS-IS, illustrate the features and advantages of integrated IS-IS. Configure and verify integrated IS-IS. Employ Cisco IOS routing features, Describe, route redistribution between IP routing IGPs, route-maps, default routes, route filtering, , DHCP services, Server, Client, configure BGP path selection, IP helper address. Employ BGP for enterprise ISP connectivity, express the functions and operations of BGP, configure or verify BGP operation in a non-transit AS authentication, Local Preference, AS Path, Weight or MED attributes. Utilize multicast forwarding, IP Multicast, Layer-3 to Layer-2 mapping, IGMP, verify IP multicast routing (i.e., PIM Sparse-Dense Mode). Implement IPv6, IPv6 addressing operations, IPv6 interoperation with IPv4, verify OSPF routing with IPv6 addressing
