Degree in Computing
Degree's and HND's remain the most sought after qualification for a career in computing. The depth and variety of material learnt during a degree is second to none. Most degrees span over 3 years (full time) or 5 years (part time), with a sandwich course being very popular with younger students. A sandwich course gives you the opportunity to work in the industry in which you are studying to gain some work experience. Part time degrees are a slower process, with students only having to study a reduced number of hours/days a week. The price of a degree in the UK varies widely with some fees costing 20,000 a year. Local councils do give grants to students that qualify, or whose parents are on low incomes. Always check before applying to see if you can get some support for you university fees. The course material is usually comprised of around 30% course work and 70% exams with the final year usually carrying a heavier weight towards the final result. The course material required in most degrees is vast with most students requiring several books each year to cover the diversity.
