Office Training - Outlook - Emails, Calendars, Tasks

Communication between businesses is increasingly important, especially with the popularity and growth of the internet. Microsoft Outlook is the worldwide industry standard for managing emails and the first class choice for most businesses. Employers will generally always want an employee who knows about mail management before employing them.

For those of you working in an office role such as a receptionist, you might also need to have knowledge of the more specialised areas of Outlook - including calendars, tasks and contact management. These are usually catered for by the intermediate or advanced training courses on the market.

As with Word and Excel most training courses for Outlook come in two or three forms - an introduction, intermediate and advanced. Each with a different skill set and learning curve. Remember, it's important to choose the course that suits you!

The introduction training courses are ideal for those with only a basic knowledge of computers but who are looking to move into an office role where a certain amount of responsibility lies with sending and responding to emails. An introductory course usually covers the following topics:

Working with the Outlook environment

Sending and responding to emails

Using flags and Outlook folders

Using the calendar to manage appointments and meetings

Managing contacts

Creating tasks

The intermediate and advanced Outlook training courses are suitable for people with existing Outlook experience who want to take their skills one step further. These courses focus more on tracking and assigning Outlook items, using journals, modifying message settings and locating Outlook items. The following topics are usually covered in these courses:

Recording and modifying journal entries

Working with calendars including time zones and setting working days

Modifying message settings including formatting, signatures, hyperlinks and delivery options

Sharing folders and items

Finding and filtering messages including junk mail
