From July 1, 2011 Microsoft will be increasing the price of their MCP certifications and exams by 12%. For U.S candidates the new price is $150. Microsoft defended this price rise as covering the continued investment and enhanced certifications program offered.
This price rise affects these certifications:- Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)
- Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)
- Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD)
- Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST)
- Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
- Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD)
- Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD)
- Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)
Which certifications will not be increased?Some certifications will NOT see price increases. For example:
- Microsoft Certified Master (MCM)
- Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA)
- Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA)
- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
How much does a Microsoft exam cost now?The new July 2011 price is an increase of roughly 12%. The old United States price was $125 and it is now $150.

StudentsAlthough the price increase is substantial, the discounts for students will remain significant. Roughly speaking, the discount for students is about 45%. That's almost half price for any Microsoft exam!
