PRINCE2 or Projects IN Controlled Environments is a world renown project management method originating from the UK. PRINCE2 is actually the second version of the project management method and is a solid trademark of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). OGC are an independent office of HM Treasury from the UK.

Originally developed in 1989 by the then Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency, it was the standard method for IT project management, but has since spread around the world and is now used in various projects and not just IT.

The PRINCE2 methodology is a structured project management approach within a tightly defined framework. PRINCE2 describes procedures to coordinate people and activities in a project, how to supervise the project, and what to do if a project needs to be adjusted. PRINCE2 is considered to be fully scalable and is not just suited to small projects. Its framework can be adapted to any project whether it is enterprise or not.

The actual PRINCE2 exam consists of 2 sections:

• Foundation
• Practitioner

The Foundation exam is the smaller exam and consists of a one hour multiple choice exam. The larger practitioner exam is a three hour exam covering a deeper knowledge of PRINCE2 in an objective-testing multiple choice test. These exams can be taken all around the globe and not just in the UK. The exams are currently administered by the APM Group. To remain an accredited PRINCE2 individual you must retake the practitioner examination every 5 years.
