Deus Ex Mankind Divided - How to Confront Richard (Cult of Personality)

Cult of Personality is one of the games early Side Missions and it's certainly got an unusual twist about it. In this walkthrough guide, I'll explain exactly how to confront this mysterious and rather overpowering leader known as Richard.

By now you're well on your way to exploring most of the Prague sewer system and have reached the northern corner of the tunnel network and spoken with Viznik, hence why you encountered Richard in the cult section. After a brief conversation with the bearded man, albeit through a tv monitor, and with a range of dialogue options on offer you're probably left wondering what the hell to do next!?

Well, I had the same problem, compounded by a wrong direction that I thought would lead me towards the Bookstore at the start of the game. Bad choice there!!

At this point in the game, the objectives panel will show the objective as "Find a way to confront Richard".

The key to confronting Richard is to realise that there are two ways to solve this puzzle. That's probably no surprise considering we are playing Deus Ex and problems always have several alternative solutions.

Let's take a look at the long winded solution first.

Solution 1: Get the signal scramblers

The first solution to confronting Richard is a rather long winded one but is certainly more rewarding as far as the roleplaying aspect of the game goes.

Locate the poster, near the exit to the cult room you just entered. Some of the writing at the bottom has been scrubbed out. Read the poster and then locate a second poster on the right of the room. This one has more letters - read it again.

The objective changes to "Seek out Liborio".

Next, head out of the sewer and go to the metro station. Travel towards Palisade Station, which is in the northwest area of the map. Go to the magic shop and speak with Liborio who'll give you three signal scramblers.

Return to the cult room in the sewers and install the scramblers. They must be placed in three separate locations which are all upstairs; the clue is that they're in the same areas that the three cameras are watching. Be quick and plant them before being spotted.

Next speak to Richard, use the "mitigate" dialogue option and he'll find it much more difficult to speak over you this time!!

Solution 2: Hack the terminal (Level 5)

The solution above is lovely but it takes much longer to achieve and there is a far quicker way to get past this mission. However, this solution is only possible after you have rescued Koller from the bookstore and have enough Praxis to buy the Level 5 Hacking augmentation, OR you have enough crafting parts to build a multi-tool.

If the above is true then continue...

Rather than finding the signal scramblers, take the ladder inside the cult room and head up to the upper level. Watch out for the three cameras and use the moveable barrels to provide protection from gunfire.

Work your way through the tunnel to the dead end and a locked door with a hacking terminal. Use your Level 5 hack or use the multi-tool to bypass the hack and open the door.

This gains you entry to Richard's room where you can either disable him or finish him off for good!!!
