Injustice 2 - How to Get Epic Gold Gear

Posted in injustice 2

Injustice 2 has literally thousands of different gear pieces that come in a variety of forms ranging from Common, through to Rare and Epic. In this guide I'll explain how to collect Epic (gold) gear, the best gear in the game, and the various ways in which you can earn them.

About Epic Gear

Every character in Injustice 2 has a set number of gear slots which can be equipped with gear pieces before entering into a fight (outside of story mode because gear is not applied there). In addition to the character slots, there is an inventory collection (per character) where gear pieces are stored, ready for use.

The Gear screen can be opened directly from the main menu, under Customize Characters (there are other contextual ways to open the same menu during gameplay). Each of your characters is shown in a list of the left hand side.

Using the Gear screen it's easy to compare and swap gear in and out of a character's slots using the interface. There are slots for different aspects of a character's appearance such as head, arms, legs and torso, in addition to a slot for a character specific item and other slots for abilities. Only one gear piece can be consumed in each slot and of course you want to choose gear that has the most aesthetically pleasing appearance and the best stats for your playstyle.

Epic gear example

Epic gear pieces have the highest stats across the range of Strength, Ability, Defense and Health. They are easy to spot thanks to their Gold coloured outline and typically aesthetically superior appearance. For example, Batman's Kryptonite Infused Arm Brace has neon glowing bands on the outside which are really cool.

Not only do Epic gear pieces have the best stats but they also benefit from "Set Bonuses" and "Augments", these Set Bonuses are applied if you equip several Epic pieces from the same set. For example, Super Girl has an Arm piece called Kandorian Fist Guards that have a set bonus for Girl Power and Femme Fatale when at least three pieces from the Kandorian set are applied to her character.

How to get Epic Gear

There are a number of ways to gain Epic gear but you will commonly find that the best gear in the game is reserved for the higher level activities, once you have successfully levelled up your character closer to the maximum level (20).

Multiverse Rewards

Multiverse example rewards

The Multiverse is a refreshing change from the online competitive modes. It offers a constantly changing set of tower challenges that revolve around a Multiverse that's populated by planets. Each of the planets contains a subset of Tower challenges, each one with individual rewards.

As you hover over the Tower markers on a planet, take note of the rewards box shown on the right side of the screen. At the very bottom, there is a list of rewards which can include many things such as Random Gear, Mother Box, Credits etc.

The final Tower challenge on a planet typically contains a Random Epic Gear piece, that is guaranteed for completing the final Tower fight. Ensure the reward is Epic tier and you'll be certain of earning a Gold gear piece for your efforts.

Mother Box

Mother Box reward

Mother Boxes are a great way to earn random loot rewards. Like Gear, Mother Boxes have their own tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond) that determine the quality of the items inside. Rewards aren't always guaranteed to be of that quality though. For example, a Gold Mother Box will contain up to four items, each one with it's own quality rating. Sometimes you might find 3 x Rare items and only a single Epic item.

The downside with Mother Boxes is that each of the Gear rewards is tied to a particular character. You may not like playing as Swamp Thing but if an Epic Gear piece appears from the box, do you continue to neglect that character? With 28+ characters in the game it can take some time to win the best Gear for your preferred character(s).

Random Drops

Example post-fight rewards

Following each and every match, the player has a chance of earning a random reward. Depending on your character's level, the reward will have an upper limit on it's quality. For example, if your character is level 5 don't expect to receive many, if any, Epic gear pieces as rewards.

As you approach level 20 (and beyond), the chance of receiving Epic Gear pieces increases, not by a lot but certainly more than if you were still level 5.

Excluded Modes

Gear rewards are excluded from both "local" and "vs CPU" modes since both of these modes are open to abuse via "rubber banding" etc. These modes are great for practicing your movesets but stay well away from them if you're interested in earning gear for your characters.
