Injustice 2 - Multiverse Mode Explained

Posted in injustice 2

The Multiverse is one of the main modes in Injustice 2 that offers an offline experience with great rewards in a single player environment. The Multiverse contains many different planets, each one with several challenges that players can engage in to win loot and unique gear that is only obtainable through the Multiverse.

Netherrealm describe the Multiverse as a huge cycle of events; there is a Multiverse where you can only use Batman or only use Superman, or one where Superman is actually the bad guy! Those who have played Mortal Kombat X will immediately recognise that the Multiverse is similar in many ways to the Living Towers mode and the rewards are just as good.

To give you an idea about Injustice 2's Multiverse mode let's discuss one of the early livestream's for the game...

Multiverse

Planets

Multiverse Planets

The Multiverse screen is comprised of several large planets (events), each one with a particular name and backstory. Players can cycle through the planets using the controller before selecting a planet to view the challenges in detail (on the planets surface).

During the livestream we saw the following planets showcased but there will be many, many more:

  • A New Earth
  • Ready to Fight
  • Fire from Inside
  • The Caped Crusader
  • Another Contract

Each of the planets has a timer (shown in the top left corner of the screen) - it counts down to zero, at which point the planet is removed from rotation and the next planet takes it's place on the Multiverse screen. This is exactly like the Living Towers from MKX.

Planets also have their own story and every story relates to one of the games characters, albeit in a way that is usually far fetched to that character's original story - hence the name Multiverse.

Towers / Challenges

Multiverse Tower

On each of the planet surfaces there are a number of markers, with each marker (tower) offering rewards for completion. These can include things such as Credits, a Mother Box, Epic Gear etc.

Each of the towers signifies a series of fights, sometimes with modifiers to mix things up a litte, as shown in the image below:

Multiverse Tower Challenge

To complete the challenge, defeat each of the opponents in that tower group. As you attempt to complete the tower pay special attention to the "objectives" for that planet, the modifiers for that Tower and keep an eye on your performance throughout. Increase your performance by beating opponents in quicker time, using more special moves and keeping a larger portion of your health - basically kick ass!

Each of the towers has it's own AI difficulty level and a set of requirements or a baseline to guide you. In most cases you will have to complete towers in the correct sequence and be sufficiently levelled up to match the computer AI's difficulty.

Following a completed tower, and depending on your "performance" (bronze, silver or gold), you will earn points to help level up your character. There are also unlocks that are dependent on reaching the highest gold tier - you can learn about these in my other posts.

Overall, the Multiverse is a great place for some variety outside of the other online modes. The Multiverse takes the story mode a step further, offering something new and refreshing every few days. If you're serious about earning Epic gear and completing gear sets for each of your characters then the Multiverse will be a place you visit regularly.
