Tag: microsoft Microsoft have announced a new certification called the Private Cloud Certification. Candidates can earn this certification to validate their skills in configuring, deploying, monitoring and operating a Microsoft private cloud solution.
It's been a while since we last saw a new Microsoft certification and this one looks like a very interesting prospect. It's all about the cloud and we've all been told (several hundred times), the cloud is the future for IT environments.
Microsoft's new product, System Center 2012, is a direct competitor to VMWare. Using System Center 2012 you can manager IT environments across datacentres, private and public clouds, client computers and devices. It's a unified infrastructure that lets you manage physical, virtual and mobile clients environments. As you can see, it's a pretty serious contender in the marketplace.
Which exams do you need to pass for the Private Cloud Certification?
The certification is a high level one and so you'll need to gain 3 of the basic MCTS exams, and two other high level exams. The official Microsoft path diagram (on the right), shows the exact path to the certification.
1. You need to pass 3 MCTS exams which must be:
- 70-640: Windows Server 2008 Active Directory, Configuring
- 70-642: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring
- 70-643: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure, Configuring
2. Then you must pass either:
- 70-247: Private Cloud Configuration and Deployment with System Center 2012
- 70-659: Windows Server 2008 R2, Server Virtualization (only available until 2013)
3. Lastly, you need to pass:
- 70-246: Private Cloud Monitoring and Operations with System Center 2012
The new certification doesn't have a name yet, but we expect that it will be different to the usual high level MCITP certification.
