New Windows Server 2012 Certifications and Exams - MCSA and MCSE

Microsoft have announced that the new MCSA and MCSE certifications for Windows Server 2012 have been released. I.T professionals can now schedule their exams and get certified on the new Server technology.

The new certifications for Windows Server 2012 are:

MCSA Windows Server 2012



The MCSA groups are the new intermediate certifications which form the building block for the advanced MCSE certification. Currently, both SQL Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 have their respectable MCSA paths.

The MCSA for Windows Server 2012 consists of 3 exams, all must be passed (there are no optional exams):

MCSA Windows Server 2012

  • 70-410 - Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012
  • 70-411 - Administering Windows Server 2012
  • 70-412 - Configuring Advanced Windows Server 2012 Services


Upgrading

There are several upgrade paths to MCSA Windows Server 2012. If you have any of the following certifications then you can upgrade by taking a single exam (70-417):

  • MCSA Windows Server 2008
  • MCITP Virtualization Administrator
  • MCITP Enterprise Messaging Administrator
  • MCITP Lync Server Administrator
  • MCITP SharePoint Administrator
  • MCITP Enterprise Desktop Administrator


MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure



The first of the MCSE certifications for Windows Server 2012. MCSE pathways are the advanced certifications that require the MCSA as their foundation.

Focusing on deployment and management of desktops and devices. You'll validate your skills in desktop virtualizations, remote desktop services and application virtualization. As you can see, there's a big focus on virtualization.

Pre-requisites:

You'll need to achieve the intermediate MCSA certification first - MCSA Windows Server 2012.

Then pass these exams:

  • 70-415 - Implementing a Desktop Infrastructure
  • 70-416 - Implementing Desktop Application Environments


Upgrading

If you've already earned the MCITP Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7, then you can gain this certification by passing three other exams: 70-417, 70-415 and 70-416. Basically, you're taking the upgrade exam for the MCSA part and the full exams for the MCSE.

MCSE: Server Infrastructure



Focusing on design, build and management of data centers. This certification tests your knowledge of identity management, systems management, virtualization, storage and networking.

Pre-requisites:

You'll need to achieve the intermediate MCSA certification first - MCSA Windows Server 2012.

Then pass the following exams:

  • 70-413 - Designing and Implementing a Server Infrastructure
  • 70-414 - Implementing an Advanced Server Infrastructure


Upgrading

This certification has multiple upgrade paths. You can upgrade from any of the following certifications:

  • MCSA Windows Server 2008
  • MCITP Virtualization Administrator
  • MCITP Enterprise Messaging Administrator
  • MCITP Lync Server Administrator
  • MCITP SharePoint Administrator
  • MCITP Enterprise Desktop Administrator


To achieve the upgrade you need to pass: 70-417, 70-413 and 70-414
