Sony, the electrics giant today lauches its Reader Daily Edition in direct challenge to Amazons already best selling Kindle device. Sony's touch screen device is capable of storing over a 1000 novels at any time. Books can also be downloaded over high-speed mobile networks.
Amazon has so far been the leader in the e-reader market with its popular wireless device, the Kindle. Amazon recently upgraded their version of the reader to allow readers to download newspapers, magazines and documents.
The new Kindle DX packs a screen that is double the size of the previous model. However, the Sony device features a full 7 inch touchscreen which allows users to read books in either portrait or landscape page layout.
Sony also announced that they would stop using the propriety forward and opt for the open format known as ePub. Many ePub books are available for download throughout the internet, some of which are written by aspiring novelists aiming to break into the lucrative market.
