Amiga ROM Versions
The Amiga ROM commonly referred to as Kickstart was actually the bootstrap firmware that the old Amiga computers used. If you want to use either WinUAE or UAE4Droid then you’ll need to download a version of kickstart.
Technically, the kickstart or Amiga Rom was used to initilize the hardware and other core components of the AmigaOS. The program would then attempt to boot from a volume such as floppy disk.
As each new version of the Amiga was produced, a new version of the Amiga Rom appeared. Starting with the Amiga 500 we had Kickstart v1.0 in 1985 and then later we had the Amiga 500+ with kickstart 2.0.
The table below outlines which Amiga Rom versions appeared and when. Use this table to assess the most compatible version and to help you download the appropriate Amiga Rom.
Tips: The launch date of the Amiga Rom (kickstart file) gives you a clue which games will be the most compatible. An early kickstart version will be most compatible with early Amiga games (Outrun, Chaos Engine, Speedball), and vice versa, a later kickstart ROM being better for the newer games (relatively speaking).
Note: to download Amiga ROM files you should legally own an Amiga running that version
