It is unlikely that the MCSD certification is going to be discontinued any time soon.

When exams are discontinued, Microsoft gives at least one years notice on their website and at developer conferences. At present there is no notice to discontinue the MCSD certification path.

It is widely assumed that the MCSD certification will be discontinued around June 2008 but is unconfirmed.

Students who are yet to start any Microsoft exams are advised to aim for the new certification paths MCTS, MCPD..
