Destiny - Cheat for Unlimited Strange Coins from Xur

There's a new way to easily get Strange Coins in Destiny giving you the opportunity to earn potentially an unlimited number of Strange Coins. Basically you're going to use a repetitive strategy across different characters backed up by the Vault.

Strange Coins are the guaranteed method of obtaining Exotic weapons in Destiny by trading with Xur. He accepts 13 coins for Armour and 23 for Exotic Weapons. Of course you can still get Exotic weapons by trading in Engrams and lucky drops but it's the luck of draw with those - and we all know how much of an arse the Cryptarch can be!

To make this cheat work you need to earn a hell of a lot of Glimmer, and be ready for Xur when he arrives at the Tower.

Warning: This method will get patched by Bungie so enjoy it while it's still hot!!

Step by Step

Ok, here are the steps for earning unlimited Strange Coins

1. Earn tonnes of Glimmer



First of all, earn the maximum amount of Glimmer to reach the Glimmer cap. The more you earn the more coins you can get in one go so try and get to the limit.

Make use of your Idols so you reap the benefits of farming enemies in the usual farming hotspots. Whether you prefer the cave on Earth or the Dark Beyond on Moon, just repeat the spawn area until you reach that magic number of Glimmer.

2. Buy Strange Coin from Xur



On a Friday morning the Agent of Nine (Xur) will appear somewhere in the Tower. In the first week he was down near the Vanguard Vendors but more recently he appeared near the Speaker.

Not only does he sell Exotic Armour and Weapons but he also sells Strange Coins. So head over to him and trade in your Glimmer for a Strange Coin (2500).

3. Create new character



Here's the important part of the cheat. Glimmer is shared between all characters of your online account so the Glimmer you earned earlier can be spent by any new ones you create.

So you want to create a new character so you can earn another coin to share with your primary character (the one you're interested in keeping).

4. Play the story mission to unlock the Tower



The Tower will be locked for your new character so you'll need to get through the early missions to get access again. It's a bit tedious but just rush through the mission as fast as possible.

5. Buy another Strange Coin from Xur

Xur will still be at the Tower, so go over to the same place and trade in another 2500 Glimmer for another coin.

6. Put the Coin in the Vault

Now that your new character has the coin, go and put it into the Vault (near the spawn point of the tower) so your other primary character can take it out. Remember, although Glimmer is shared between all characters, coins are not shared so you need to use the Vault.

7. Delete character

As this new character is only going to be used to farm Strange Coins, you can delete it. Thus freeing up the slot for another new character.

8. Repeat steps 3-7

Now just repeat steps 3-7. You'll be creating a new character, buying the coin, putting in vault, delete and repeat.

If you get low on Glimmer, go back to step 1 and earn more Glimmer to reach the maximum Glimmer cap again. This is the hardest part of the strategy because earning Glimmer can take time and the Xur is only around for 3 days. This signifies the importance of earning that Glimmer cap first rather than repeatedly hunting for Glimmer.

Post Patch Solutions

Now that Bungie have patched the above exploit, it's back to the traditional coin earning methods. With Xur selling Gjallarhorn for the first time, those Strange Coins are even more valuable now than ever before!

The following methods are the best way to legitimately earn coins as efficiently as possible:

Level 28 PoE

The Level 28 PoE playlist provides players with matchmaking facilities for the Prison of Elders "end game". Level 28 is fairly mediocre and you should be able to rush through these as quickly as the traditional strike playlist. At the end of PoE players can open the two smaller chests which are hidden in the treasure room underground. There's a high probability that these chests reward you with a Strange coin.

Simply repeat the Level 28 playlist as many times as possible to increase your coin count.

Weekly Heroic Strikes

A guaranteed source of Strange Coins in Destiny. These matchmaking strikes can only be played once per week, for a maximum of 9 Strange Coins. However, smart players will have 2 alternate characters ready to exploit the Heoric strike every week for 27 Strange Coins. If you still haven't created two alternate characters then now is certainly a good time to start.

Vanguard Strike Playlists

The strikes in Destiny have become a playground of abuse, with players able to speed run through most of them in under 15 mins. Rewards come in the form of Engrams, Motes and sometimes Coins. The Vanguard strikes are not as rewarding as PoE (in terms of Coins) but you may want to vary between the two to avoid repetition.

Daily Public Events

Achieving a Gold Rating in any Public Event will guarantee you a Postmaster reward - which you collect from the Tower. Make sure you complete one Public Event in Patrol Mode every day to increase your chances of receiving a Strange Coin from the Postmaster.

Public Events are timed mini-events which occur only in Patrol Mode, on any planet. They include things such as: destroying a Walker, defending a Warsat, killing a high profile target.
