Today Bungie announced the final update for Destiny 1, "Age of Triumph", but also confirmed which items would carry over to Destiny 2, the confirmed sequel. Although nobody expected everything to carry forward, some are still disappointed that particular inventory items will be lost between Destiny 1 and Destiny 2.
One particular sore point is the fact that "Eververse-related" items will not carry forward to Destiny 2. This includes things that players bought with real money (Silver) such as Dances, Halloween cosmetics etc.
Personally I think that if you've had your money's worth during the lifespan on Destiny 1 then that's enough really, you can't expect purchased items to carry forward indefinitely - you certainly wouldn't get this with any other game e.g Mass Effect.
Would you also want to have most of your character pre-built before the sequel launches? I for one enjoy the thrill of getting drops, praying to the RNG gods and grinding in the traditional Destiny fashion, so that some day I'll get some of the games more elusive items. That's what really makes Destiny.
So, to make things crystal clear, below are three lists. One for items that will carry forward, another for items that will be left behind and one list for unconfirmed items. Basically, the ONLY thing that is going to carry forward is your character's appearance, nothing that they own or have earned.
Items that carry forward
- Character class, race, gender, face, hair, and marking selections*
* Only for characters that have achieved Level 20 and completed the Black Garden story mission.
Items that do NOT carry forward
- Power (Light Level)
- Weapons and Armour
- Ghost Shells
- Eververse items
- Currency (inc Strange Coins)
- Consumables (Ammo Packs, Three of Coins etc.)
- Skeleton Keys
