Extinction Awakening Includes Gargoyles, Ark Attachment and the Vanguard

Infinity Ward have released a new trailer for the 3rd installment in the Extinction series. Titled Awakening, the 3rd episode will take you into the Balls Pyramid where you'll encounter Gargoyles and the Vanguard weaponry.

The achievements for Awakening were leaked earlier today and they originally gave us clues about the maps new features. We know that new weaponry called the Vanguard makes its first appearance thanks to the Dog Fight achievement which requires you to kill a Gargoyle using the new weapon.

Update: The Vanguard is actually a quadrator which players can call in using the laptop computer. The flying machine is armed with grenades as its weapon and it's an essential part of your arsenal. Without the Vanguard you'll have difficulty destroying the Obelisks which open the barriers to the later levels.

An interesting twist on the crafting theme means that players can also add attachments to their weapons in this map. The Ark is one of those special attachments which also forms part of the "Like a Glove" achievement which requires players to kill 5 cryptids using the new Ark attachment on every weapon in Awakening.

Update: The Ark is actually a simple Muzzle attachment which increases the firepower of your weapon. It's not like a Pack-a-Punch which some YouTubers have incorrectly quoted.

Lastly, just like the original Extinction map (Point of Contact), players have the chance to escape the map and can earn the "Well Rounded" achievement if they do so using each of the four classes. Dynamic features such as bridges must also be activated in order for players to enter deeper areas of the map and find the escape point.

As it turns out Awakening is the hardest of the Extinction maps so far, with many COd pro's turning to easy mode to defeat the map.

Gargoyles - New Aliens

Gargoyles are the new aliens in Awakening. They're huge bat like creatures with deadly wings that swoop down and bite your head off. They're more annoying than the Scorpion aliens because you need to look upwards to see them hovering overhead.

Mammoths

Mammoths are the new Rhino aliens that guard the passage to the Ancestors Lair. They are tougher than Rhinos and players need great teamwork to kill them off. You cannot use the Hypno Trap or Hypno Knife to turn a Mammoth friendly.
