Minecraft 1.2.5 prerelease is another of the early snapshots from Jeb and the rest of the Minecraft team. This snapshot includes lots of bug fixes such as random chat crashes, the serious world generation crash and Lord Herobrine ghost entities.

Some of you will remember Jon Kagstrom from his improvements to the Minecraft AI (artificial intelligence). He was responsible for improving the path finding ability of mobs, giving zombies the intelligence to break through doors and also the excellent Ocelot jungle mob. Well, he's back on the Scrolls game for the time being, probably a couple of weeks. He's going to be working on the AI for Scrolls because that's his thing.

So now it's over to the new Bukkit team with Jeb leading the way. The team includes: Nathan Adams who is an English developer; Erik Broes who previously worked on Bukkit development; Tahg and EvilSepth who was the Bukkit team lead. With these guys working on Minecraft full time, we can expect to see a lot of mod API work going on.

In fact, Jeb has already given us clues on what to expect. Eventually, Minecraft will come pre-packaged with Bukkit like tools. Any new Minecraft snapshots or version updates will be instantly compatible with the new API. You'll be able to sleep peacefully knowing your Minecraft servers will support the latest updates.

As you may know, Minecraft 1.2.4 contained a serious world generation crash bug so Jeb thought that it was best to release an early snaphot before the official 1.2.5 version. You can download this snapshot using the direct download links below..

This prerelease snapshot includes the following features and bug fixes:

  • Shift clicking support in furnaces
  • New method to easily acquire blocks you have selected in the world in Creative mode using the 'pick block' key
  • Direct Connect dialog now remembers the last IP for the current session
  • Fixed issues detected certain links in chat
  • Fixed wild ocelots behaving like tamed cats
  • Fixed several chat crashes
  • Made cats less likely to sit on things
  • Made cats more impatient
  • Fixed world generation failing under certain conditions
  • Fixed issues turning off sound under certain conditions
  • Removed all ghost entities under the command of Lord Herobrine
  • Fixed crash when pasting certain characters in chat
  • Fixed slash / key not behaving correctly in certain environments
  • Fixed command matching being too greedy (for example: typing '/stophammertime' no longer stops your server)
  • Fixed not being able to click coloured links
  • Fixed potential issue with village door detection (which could cause too many villagers people)
  • When using a stack of bowls on Mooshrooms it will not consume the whole stack of bowls
  • Punching a TNT block with flint and steel in your hand will destroy the block and drop a TNT block (right-clicking will activate the TNT)
