In the past, Firefox was considered to be the best alternative to Microsoft Internet Explorer because of its speed and crash free environment. However, in the last 2 or 3 years, Google Chrome has been the best web browser to download because of its stability, speed and excellent support from Google. AS Chrome became more popular, Firefox 3 quickly became out of date and its slow speed forced a lot of people to stop using it. The Firefox team have learnt that smaller releases are going to make them compete better in the market and we can see a lot of these in version 4.
Firefox 4 uses the new Gecko 2 engine and its now faster, easier to use and competes with the other browsers such as Chrome and Internet Explorer. The new redesigned extension manager is much friendlier and so is the new notifications feature. Firefox 4 supports WebM, WebGL and GPU-based acceleration (the same as Chrome and other modern browsers).
Other smaller changes also make a big difference. The stop, refresh and go buttons have been combined into a single button next to the address bar. The majority of menu options have also been moved to the top left hand corner of the browser (like the Opera browser) which makes the application cleaner and focused on internet browsing.
Version 4 of Firefox is now much faster than previously versions thanks to the big changes in the Javascript engine and it now supports HTML5. We strongly recommend you download and try Firefox 4 for yourself!
