Titanfall - What's the Best Anti-Titan Weapon

Posted in titanfall

Having unlocked and used all of the anti-titan weapons in Titanfall I can tell you straight away which ones are the best. What's I like about anti-titan weapons is they're fun to use and easy to unlock (all unlocked by level 33). The following article discusses all of the anti-titan weapons and covers the pros and cons of each.

By now, everyone knows that you've got your basic primary weapons which are best suited to pilots and other minions and then you've got your anti-titan weapons which are geared towards Titans only. Whilst you can rodeo another Titan and use your primary weapon, only the anti-titan weapons are effective on the ground. You may also have discovered that using your anti-titan weapon while doing a rodeo is a very bad move!

Best to worst anti-titan weapons...

Charge Rifle

Titanfall - Charge Rifle

The Charge Rifle is unlocked at level 33 making it the last of the anti-titan weapons you'll receive. But is it worth the wait? I'd have to say yes. It's a hell of alot of fun and when used in the right situation, against the right enemy, a skilled pilot can devastate an opponent.

Like the Titan Railgun and Arc Cannon weapons, the Charge Rifle requires charging before it fires. Once fully primed, it automatically fires an impressive beam across the map. There's no option to short circuit the charge and fire a little faster though, so a steady aim is essential to scoring direct hits against enemy Titans. That's the Charge Rifle's only real weakness.

Overall the weapon is great fun to use and impressive to watch. A single blast against an enemy Titan will inflict some serious damage making the difficulty of achieving a perfect hit a worthwhile and satisfying venture.

Pros

  • Powerful
  • Alot of fun

Cons

  • Direct hit required
  • Fairly slow charge time

MAG Launcher

Titanfall - MAG Launcher

Unlocked at level 22, the MAG Launcher is a steady anti-titan weapon and one of the better choices when it comes to taking down the mechanical beasts. Like the sidewinder, it's highly mobile but the difference is that the MAG is far more powerful. It's special grenades stick to the Titans armour making it easy to fire in the general direction of a Titan and let the grenades do the hard work. The MAG Launcher is powerful enough to make it worthwhile going one on one against an enemy Titan.

I particularly like the MAG Launcher because you can stay mobile, move quickly and avoid the enemy Titans fire. This is especially true against enemy Titans armed with the inaccurate Arc Cannon or Plasma Railgun.

Overall the MAG is my second choice against Titans. It's a versatile weapon that works perfectly up close and from a distance, it's also the kind of weapon you want to use with confidence that it's going to do some worthwhile damage.

Pros

  • Powerful enough
  • No precise aim required
  • Mobile weapon

Cons

  • Slow reload

Archer Heavy Rocket

Titanfall - Archer Heavy Rocket

The heavy rocket is a powerful but slow weapon. It's lockon is accurate and simple and direct hits will inflict some lasting damage to enemy Titans. On the down side, firing a rocket causes a smoke trail which is easy to identify for both Titans and pilots. Titans will also receive audio and visual warnings while you attempt to lockon - thus highlighting your position for an easy kill.

As with all weapons that require you to aim down the scope, you lose mobility and awareness while you prep the Rocket launcher. To succeed with the rocket launcher, you need to utilize elevated positions and protective cover to achieve repeated lockons and killer strikes against other Titans.

Pros

  • Inflicts decent damage
  • Easy lockon with no precise aim required
  • Great against an escaping drop ship
  • Long range

Cons

  • Slow to reload
  • Reveals your position too easily
  • Lockon required
  • Enemy titans receive audio and visual warning

Sidewinder AT-SMR

The sidewinder weapon fires small rockets with a fraction of a delay between repeated trigger presses. The rockets inflict minimal damage to Titans but are instantly fired upon pressing the trigger finger.

The Sidewinder will serve you well for assists and maybe finishing off a Titan that's almost doomed. But unfortunately it's not powerful enough to finish a Titan before revealing your position on the map to enemy pilots.

On the plus side the sidewinder requires no lock on, is highly mobile and it doesn't reveal your position to Titans like the Rocket does.

Overall, I would never choose the Sidewinder over the other Anti-Titan weapons.

Pros

  • Highly mobile
  • Fast fire rate

Cons

  • Far too weak
