Titanfall Guide - How to Earn XP Fast and Level Up Quickly

Posted in titanfall

You're going to need a lot of XP to reach the high levels in Ttitanfall and things only really get interesting when you're surpass level 20. After the 20's you unlock the best Tactical, Ordnance and Titan Weapons such as Active Radar Pulse, Spitfire LMG and Guardian Chip.

Here are some of the best unlocks waiting after level 20

  • Level 22: Mag Launcher - grenade launcher anti-titan weapon whose grenades stick to Titans
  • Level 26: Particle Wall - Titan Tactical that creates a force field
  • Level 33: Charge Rifle - super powerful lazer beam that's an anti-titan weapon
  • Level 39: Spitfire LMG - amazing at killing Titans when you rodeo
  • Level 49: Guardian Chip - your Titan becomes much better at fighting on its own

I'll share some of the things that have helped me rank up fast. Personally I found that any players already in the 20's had a serious advantage over me, especially those with Active Radar Pulse and any of the high level Titan unlocks.

What gets the most XP?

Pilot kills and completing Challenges are the two things you want to concentrate on. Pilot kills are going to get you 100 XP whilst each challenge gets you on average 1000 XP depending on the challenge.

Some of the challenges are really simple too. For example, there are challenges just for running around and covering a certain distance, wall hanging, calling in Titans and winning a number of rounds. Getting the first kill, double kills and having the highest number of kills with a certain weapon also earn you bonus XP.

A good tip is to pay attention to the review screen after a game and check the active challenges. The review will highlight all active challenges and those that are almost complete. Simply make them a priority on the next game and you'll tick them off the list for a nice 1000 XP per challenge.

Make the most of your burn cards

Titanfall - burn cards

After about level 6/7 Burn Cards are unlocked and you can go mad because those cards roll in so fast its hard to spend them all before your slots fill up. So each time you die make an effort to choose one of the Burn Cards in your 3 slots. Good burn cards are the ones which earn you double XP, allow you to call in a Titan early and get upgraded guns. I found that Burn Cards are a smart way to increase your chances or earning XP faster.

Rodeo like mad

Titanfall - Rodeo

Those of you just starting out are going to be at a disadvantage. Your Titan is going to get annihilated against an Ogre especially if they've got Triple Threat. Therefore, I found that using the rodeo is a sneaky way to kill off Titans and get easy XP. Experienced players will be equipped with Electric Smoke and others will eject and kill you but the majority of times they'll be too busy engaging other Titans to worry about you.

The best way to rodeo is to use SIM to quickly catch up or Cloak to sneak up, then double jump close to the Titan and quickly mount by pressing X. Then expel your entire primary weapons ammo into the weak spot. When a reload is needed quickly swap weapons and use the entire pistol clip to deal more damage. You might need a single reload but soon enough the Titan is doomed and you'll earn at least an assist or kill for yourself.

If the pilot chooses to eject then a clever counter tactic is to immediately call in your own Titan (if that Titan has Warp Fall). There's a high chance your Titan will drop on top of them giving you a nice Titan drop kill which also counts towards one of the Challenges.

Tip: Never use an anti-titan weapon when you rodeo or you'll kill yourself in the process.

Satchel Charge is OP

The Satchel Charge is one of the most powerful explosives in the game. Behaving much like C4 from your typical FPS, the Satchel Charge can be thrown in the general direction of enemy pilots and detonated with great effect. Because its so easy to mix up pilots and grunts, this tactic takes away the need to pinpoint your firepower or get engaged in a one on one fight against another pilot.

Active Radar Pulse and Shotgun are OP

Titanfall - Active Radar Pulse

Active Radar Pulse is one of the best unlocks in the game but it doesn't come along until level 19. Once unlocked this Tactical Ability will let you see through walls for a limited time and it even highlights enemy pilots and Titans in orange.

Finding pilots is one of the tiresome parts to Titanfall so this Tactical Ability will help you earn XP considerably faster. When used in combination with fast movement and the Shotgun you'll find that pilots don't even know you're coming (see video below).

Players that find Titanfall difficult will find it a hell of alot easier once you've unlocked this Tactical perk.

Use an elevated position

Titanfall - elevated position

Elevated positions provide an advantage against both enemy pilots and titans. Firstly, Titans can't trample on you and most of time they won't see you at all. You can fire off rockets to rack up assists or finish off Titans for yourself. Secondly, if you're using the Carbine you can easily take down other pilots because of its solid accuracy and long range.

The hard part is getting to those elevated positions which sometimes requires good wall climbing and jumping between buildings. Once you've mastered double jumping it shouldn't be difficult to reach most elevated positions.

Keep jumping and kicking

Not sure if this is a skill or an exploit for lag but Titanfall seems to give a big advantage to players who keep jumping and kicking. So when you get close to your pilot opponent, constantly double jump from side to side and repeatedly launch a kick. Kicks seem to deal instant death with much greater accuracy than a gun can at close range.

Not sure if this will be patched but at the moment spam kicking and jumping make for easy close quarter kills.

Stick together when fighting Titans

A lot of newbies go solo when fighting Titans and that's a big mistake. Whilst you might be ok against a lone enemy Titan, once they group up you're going to get overrun easily.

Therefore, when you spawn your Titan, immediately check the map for friendly Titans and regroup. You'll find that hunting in packs (like beasts) makes it easier to destroy Titans and keep pilots off each other's backs. I can't stress this enough but if you want to destroy stronger Titans then fight as a team.

Use Nuclear Ejection and Auto-Eject

Titanfall - Nuclear Eject and Auto-Eject

New players may want to setup their Titan to automatically eject and go nuclear (Tier 1 and Tier 2 kit options). The blast radius from a detonating nuclear Titan causes massive damage to nearby pilots and other Titans. This means cheap kills and more XP in the long run.

If you're clever enough to dash into a group of enemy Titans you can make the move even more worthwhile by claiming bonus XP for multiple kills too.

Unlock the Ogre Titan Class

Playing the campaign may be a boring exercise but it's got one very important benefit - unlocking more Titan Chasis. The Stryder and Ogre are the two new Chasis that you'll unlock once you've completed both sides of the campaign.

Ok so the Stryder is already available as one of the 3 standard classes but its not customizable. Furthermore, the Ogre is a great Chasis that provides additional armour which makes a big difference against tougher opponents. It sacrifices speed but who cares when you can bulldoze your way through right?
