Zombies Mob of the Dead - Starting Strategy Tips and Best Train Locations Round 30+

A complete guide to reaching round 30+ and the best train locations on the Mob of the Dead. Tips for early rounds and maximising points, which guns and perks to buy and also the best train location for reaching the higher levels.

Mob of the Dead is one of the best zombie maps from Black Ops 2 and there are an abundance of good weapons and traps at your disposal. Although the tunnels are tight, there are a small number of rooms which are perfect for trains and reaching the high rounds.

Let's get started..

Rounds 1-5



Use the double points bonus (hidden in cells) to maximise your points in the early rounds. You'll need to go into afterlife to open the cells but it's well worth it.

Pick up MP5 and work the cells outside of the cafeteria first.

Head to the first dog location (Michigan cell block) and feed the dog there in round 4. Towards the end of round 4 take the Gondola down to the Docks. Use afterlife to unlock Juggernog perk machine.

Round 5, buy Tommy Gun and feed the second dog outside the generator room. Do NOT unlock any other doors to keep the zombies coming thick and fast.

Rounds 5-10



Round 5, collect maximum points using Tommy Gun. Stay in docks.

Towards end of round 5, open the double gate leading the tunnels. Open Generator room and disable machines in afterlife. Buy Jug if possible now.

Mob of the Dead - Round 5-10Round 6- 9, maximise points in the dock area and finish feeding the dog if necessary. Avoid using the Tower trap. We're aiming for 7000+ points by round 9.

Towards end of round 9, go into afterlife and collect plane part at bottom of the spiral staircase. Also unlock the Double Tap perk machine AND the wardens office upstairs with an additional afterlife.

Buy Double Tab, go to wardens office and enter afterlife once more to unlock Speed Cola machine. Buy the perk and collect the plane part in the office.

Rounds 10-15



Round 10, use the Tommy Gun (now with Double Tap) to dominate round 10 and collect maximum points in the cell block area.

Towards the end of round 10 go to the infirmary and get the plane part from the cabinet. Enter afterlife and unlock the door to the roof.

Round 11, feed the dog in the infirmary. You'll find that the combination of Speed Cola, Double Tap and Juggernog makes this easy, even in a tight space.

Mob of the Dead - Round 10-15Towards end of round 11, pick up Tomahawk (hell's retriever) and head to the laundry room (through the door opposite the tomahawk). Turn on the washing machine and complete the round to collect the final part of the plane.

In rounds 12-15, go to the docks and work the area between the dogs head and the Tommy Gun on the wall. Manoeuvre up and down, avoiding zombies whilst using the Tommy Gun to collect more points 30,000+.

Rounds 15-20



Mob of the Dead - Round 15-20Stay in the docks, use the train method and refill ammo for the Tommy Gun when needed. The jug is close by so buy it again if/when downed. If you do get downed, leave the last zombie alive and let him follow you back to the perk machines to stock up again.

Rounds 20+



Things are setup in-case of a fall now. We can buy all perks again with the points we've collected.

Now's a good time to ditch the Tommy Gun and get something more powerful. Head to the weapons box (wardens office or cafeteria) and hunt for either a high powered machine gun or the Blunder Gat. Also consider taking the plane and completing a pack-a-punch to avoid doing it later..

Best Train Locations



1. Docks



If you choose to stay in the docks, I recommend opening the other door to the generator room, giving you a complete circle to work trains. Run through the generator room, corner to corner and then back out to the tunnel area and up to the double gate. Stay close to the walls and you can repeat this process while turning and firing at zombies.

The advantage of the docks is that you've got the Tommy Gun on the wall for more ammo and the jug machine close by incase you're downed. The upgraded Tower Trap can also help you out.

2. Cafeteria

The cafeteria is close to the cell blocks, next to the Acid Trap. It's a square shaped room with 3 windows and only one main entrance. It's easy to work circles in this room while using the diagonal cut through to avoid getting trapped.

The cafeteria also contains the workbench for making the shield and sometimes the weapons box. However, we recommended having a decent gun before entering the Cafeteria, preferably an upgraded Blunder Gat, machine gun or ray gun. High ammunition and fast reload are essential to stay alive here.

3. Shower Room



The stretched rectangular room with the washing machine provides an easy place for running circles. The downside is that the room only has a shotgun weapon on the wall and no perk machines or traps close by.

4. The Golden Gate Bridge



Mob of the Dead - Train location 4The golden gate bridge is one of the largest areas of the map and is one of the best locations for making long trains. The bridge also contains the pack-a-punch machine to upgrade your gun.

Stay in the central area, close to the PaP and work your circles.

The big disadvantage of the bridge is that you're a long way from any perk machines and ammo refills. The boss zombie also loves appearing on the bridge which is good for double points and ammo drops but bad if you're stuck with a lightweight gun.

  • Speed Cola
  • Double Tap


Other tips for success

  • Use combination of shoot and stab in early rounds to maximise points
  • Avoid opening too many doors in early rounds to increase zombie spawn speed
  • Use Gondola down to docks to avoid opening doors too early
  • Avoid electric cherry or leave until last choice between this and deadshot perk
  • Leave the last zombie alive in each round to complete any unfinished business e.g buying more perks, changing gun etc.
  • Avoid using traps in the early rounds because you'll get no points
  • Work slow circles, sticking close to the walls and sprinting when in trouble
  • Never back into a corner
  • Get tomahawk weapon for backup situations
