The new version of Google Maps for Android contains some excellent new features including location dashboard and trends, improved location rating and a check in at home feature.
Although version 5.3 is an update to the existing Google Maps app, its an excellent update to install. The new location history dashboard is provides interesting statistics and graphs on your location history. It includes things such as the amount of time you spent at home, at work or out and about. The location dashboard also tracks the total number of miles you have travelled. To use the Location History dashboard you need to enable Location History in Google Latitude.
Like Foursquare, the Latitude check in feature now lets you set your home location and check in there. You can then share your location with friends so they know you are at home!
The Google places Hotpot recommendation system has also been improved. Rather than having to use the default criteria that Google suggests, you can add your own criteria. For example you might choose great view and lively music as criteria for a restaurant.
We really liked the new Google Maps app for Android and think its well worth downloading and trying for yourself.
The app requires Android version 1.6 or higher.
