Inspired by the hugely popular flight simulators found in many games arcades at the time (1987). Afterburner arrived in the Top Gun era when flight simulation was all the rage. Flying an F14 fighter jet the player had to fight off enemy jets for 18 stages.
Armed with a machine gun and a set of missiles the player needed to out fly the enemy jets and make it back to the aircraft carrier to refuel. The Amiga version was a port of the original arcade classic which also made its way onto the Atari, Commadore 64, NES and more recently the XLA and PSN.
The arcade version of Afterburner was never going to be the same on the Amiga but it still offered good music and enjoyable fast paced action.
