Minecraft | How to Create a Door

Doors come in two varieties; wooden and iron. They can be crafted from 6 wooden planks or 6 iron (ingots). However, the stronger iron door can only be opened and closed using a switch mechanism (such as levers, pressure plates or stone buttons).

Both wooden and iron doors can be easily destroyed by destroying the block below a door. The best way to avoid a door being destroyed is to place lava above the door or obsidian below the door.

Iron doors will open if any open signal is connected to them. Clever Minecraft players can create doors that will only open one way or even only open remotely via a switch.

Door Recipe

1. Combine 6 wooden planks for a wood door
2. OR, combine 6 iron for an iron door

Mob Traps

Although doors are great for stopping other players and mobs from moving around in certain areas they are even better as mob traps. The simplest mob trap is a 4 door system created by placing a pressure plate block surrounded by 4 doors. See mob traps for more details.
