Minecraft | How to create a Minecart

Minecarts have become everyones favourite construction because of their endless fun factor and amusement (see rollercoasters). Minecarts are great for moving around maps faster because you can ride it them. Mobs can also ride in them and you can transport items in them too.

Minecarts must be used in conjunction with Minecart tracks which are like rails. Just like a train would travel along rail tracks, the minecart travels along minecart tracks. Since the minecart is subject to gravity it's possible to place tracks in such a way that the cart powers itself along the tracks for long distances.

It's possible to create a Minecart train by first building a minecart and then adding Storage Minecarts in front of it. You will need to use a Powered Minecart to achieve this though.

Minecart Recipe

The Minecart recipe is really simple and you only need 1 type of material – iron.

1. Place the 5 iron on the crafting grid in a U shape as shown above.

How to ride a minecart

Once built and placed on the rail tracks, a player can ride the cart by right clicking on it. The cart does not move automatically so its important to either build a booster or push the cart before jumping in.

To leave a minecart you just right click the mouse again.

Whilst travelling in a mincart the player suffers no damage from falling great distances but will suffer damage from hitting their head whilst leaving the cart if they isn't enough head room.
