Minecraft | How to make Gunpowder
If you want to
create TNT then you'll need to collect gunpowder first. Gunpowder is the key ingredient combined with sand to create TNT. The bad news is that you cannot create gunpowder, you have to collect it from monsters (mobs).
If you manage to kill a Creeper (green monster) or Ghast they you will be rewarded with gunpowder which you can collect. It can be a little tricky to collect gunpowder it will sink in water so make sure you kill the Ghast in dry land or in shallow water.
It's also possible (but rare) to collect gunpowder from a chest hidden in a dungeon. You always steal gunpowder too it you're playing SMP (multiplayer).
To make collecting gunpowder a little easier we recommend crafting swords first and even crafting armour for yourself. This will limit the chances of you dying in the process of collecting this essential resource for TNT.
